The United States Mint is proud to offer the public the opportunity to own a beautiful 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin. Not worried about the price, that, is locked in. Unless the Gov, backs out. :sarc: Like that'll happen. I'm looking at delivery... I really want to see one of these close up, even though it'll be through (hopefully) high grade plastics.

Because if you want to own the coin, it's not available at a lower price??

I think it's a GREAT looking coin!

I'm fumbling with the idea of ordering one. I know it's a rip off ounce per dollar wise,
but it's a darn nice coin. Might be highly desireable later.

Do you know of a site selling it for less or at a comparable price? I'd have no problem canceling my order with the governmint.

Maybe HistoryStudent would like to weight in on this. But every UHR Gold Eagle I've seen offered in the aftermarket had a higher asking price, not a lower.

Haha no kidding. I forget where I got that picture. I think it might have been in that main UHR thread, or maybe it was on a different site. Regardless, I applaud his fortitude to take it out of the capsul; it really showcases how thick the coin really is. When I got mine, off to PCGS it went.

He probably bit his nails in anticipation of delivery of said coin. :cry1: What a beauty it is too. If and when I get mine it'll be straight off to NGC for grading as I belong to their society. Working on putting together the SAE PF69's right now. The PF70's were a little to pricey to go for as I just got into it a couple of months ago. The tough one will be the 1995-W, that's a lot of money. :thumb.aspx:

If you can afford it, buy one. Nice looking coin, may have good upside potential. The only downside is that it is small compared to a Saint, but still beautiful. Your f-in nuts if you take it out of the capsule and fondle it, get a VF or lower liberty for that.

BEAUTIFUL coin it is
& wait ONLY $400 over Spot!!! (ok 350)

I'm sure this will become highly sought after and valuable.
Especially "first strikes" so it MAY be worth it....

I'll let History Student, wherever he is... Decide!

I think the Mint price of $1289 isn't too bad when you compare it to an average EF Saint from APMEX, selling for $1197.

You are correct. I am f-in nuts. My coin was graded an first strike MS 70 by PCGS. What's more, the coin was left out on my front step the whole night. It was like 40 degrees that night, so when I brought it in, condensation was starting to form on the the coin.

I had promised Gordon that I would take the coin out to get a side angle shot, and when I saw the coin, I could not help but fondle it. And it's gold, how much damage could a human hand do, even from my callused weight lifters mitts...

This is what itsays on the U.S. Mint site.

The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin is packaged in an elegant mahogany wood box with velvet lining. A wood platform encasing the coin capsule allows the coin to be visible without tilting it. The box is finished with a high-gloss lacquer and the inscriptions used are in a font similar to those used in the early 1900s when the original coin was produced.

Ahhh yes, NOW I remember. Unfortunately, my hundreds of posts in that UHR thread are a distant memory. I think that thread needs a revisiting.

I still applaud you, SS, for having taken one for the team and taking the coin out of the capsul. That side shot you took was awesome. I have it saved on my flash drive. I had no idea you sent that in to get graded and got a FS MS70! That's awesome. When my FS MS70 came back from PCGS, I was in shock. One of the coolest things I own.

Yeah, they sent it to me here in New Zealand. It took a while, I think maybe four months from when I ordered it but they only charged my credit card once it was shipping. Glad I got it. It's so beautiful, I couldn't imagine ever selling it.

Same here. If a major financial emergency occured for me, there's no way I would part with this coin. I'd soon rather starve!

I'd give the mint a call, you never know. They may consider the country that you're in as part of another delivery area.

The UHR is my only numismatic coin, save some high PCGS graded morgan GSA dollars. The GSA packaging is not tampered with, PCGS simply puts their sticker on the original GSA packaging. I blame/ thank History and Gordon for prodding me to get the UHR - no regrets on that coin, you will really like yours when you get it. Watch out, the mailman tends to leave these on your front stoop if you are not home when they make delivery - happened to me and a few others here as well.

I have been steadily aquiring bullion for the past 16 months, that yellow box was my first purchase of AU Maples. I should have purchased a box of the 2009 Vancouver Olymic AG Maples instead.

This pic shows the condensation that had built up inside the capsule. I figured that if I did not open it up to let the moisture out, then the condensation might dry and leave spots on the coin. And once the capsule was opened, then could not resist picking it up...
